The Member Status Field is one of the many built-in fields found in your People Screen church database. Surprisingly, we get asked quite a few questions about it. We'll talk about what it is, and the best ways to use it.
Simply put, the Member Status of a person is how they are connected to your ministry. By default, ChurchTrac includes the following Member Status fields:
We encourage churches/ministries to customize their Member Status field. After all, every church is unique and may want to simplify the fields they use or rename them. For example, one church may want to have a member status of just Member or Guest. Likewise, other churches may want to be more defined in their member status by using fields such as contributor, child, prospect, and more. To customize these fields, edit any individual in the People Screen and click the "Member Status" link.
As of late, we're seeing many churches keep things simple by using Member Status fields such as Member, Guest, Child, and Contributor. These are the most common types of individuals that either attend or interact with a church.
What happens if I delete a Member Status with people assigned to it?
The Member Status for the person(s) will default to blank.
Does the member status of a person affect my name tier?
No. ALL names added into ChurchTrac People count towards your name tier. The only exception to this is names that you've Archived. Learn more about Archived Names
Can I view only the people in my database that have a specific Member Status?
Yes! You will want to create a Smart List to do this. Learn more about Smart Lists
